Choose the hotels first. The route follows.
Private journeys through Vietnam, Cambodia and Laos planned from the bed outwards: we fix where you sleep, for how many nights and in which room category, then lay the days, the car, the guide and the flights around it.
Where to begin
Three ways to start
Most people arrive here at one of three points. Some already know the shape of the trip and want a route to adapt. Some know a place and want to understand it. Some have a hotel in mind and want a journey that makes sense of it. Each has its own door.
Start from a journey
Four sample routes from 9 to 16 days, each with the hotel changes counted and the reasons written down. See the journeys.

How we plan
The stay is the itinerary
A conventional tour is a list of sights with hotels slotted underneath. We work the other way round. On a trip at this level the hotel is where you spend most of your waking hours that are not in a car: breakfast, the pool after a hot morning at the temples, the hour before dinner. If the hotel is wrong for the place, no amount of guiding fixes it.
So the first question we ask is not which sights you want. It is where you want to wake up. A riverside room in a valley outside Luang Prabang and a suite on a garden estate in the middle of town are two different trips, even if the temples you visit are the same. A villa on Ha My beach and a room in a 1901 building in central Hanoi set two different rhythms for the day.
Once the stays are fixed, three rules shape the rest:
- Three nights is our floor for any land stay, except a single night on the water in Halong Bay. Two nights means one usable day once you count the arrival and the departure.
- Fewer hotel changes, not more sights. Each change costs about half a day of packing, transfers and check-in. A 12-day trip with two changes feels longer than a 12-day trip with five.
- The days bend to the hotel. Touring is set for the cool hours, and afternoons stay free so the place you are paying for gets used.
What sits around the hotels
Every journey on this site is private. One party, one vehicle, one guide on the days you want a guide. The private car meets you at every airport and every hotel door; it is not shared with another booking. Domestic and regional flights replace long road days wherever a flight exists, because a five-hour drive in the middle of a luxury trip is time taken from the hotel.
The guide is a choice, not a fixture. Days at Angkor or a first morning in Hanoi gain a lot from a good guide. A beach day does not. Your quote shows guided days and free days separately, so you can see what you are paying for and remove what you do not need.

Journeys
Four sample journeys
| Journey | Days | Countries | Hotel changes | Price |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Indochina Grand Stays | 16 | 3 | 4 | On request |
| Vietnam Heritage Hotels | 12 | 1 | 2 | On request |
| Cambodia & Laos in Slow Luxury | 9 | 2 | 1 | On request |
| Vietnam North to South, Beach Finale | 14 | 1 | 3 | On request |
Prices are quoted per trip, after you send dates and the room level you want. The pricing page explains what moves the number: room category, season, how many times you change hotel, and which flights the route needs. The month-by-month page shows which months suit which route.
When we will suggest 4-star instead
Luxury hotels are not equally worth it everywhere. In Siem Reap you spend long hot mornings at the temples and come back wanting a quiet pool, so the hotel earns its rate. On a two-night city stop where you are out from breakfast to dinner, a well-run 4-star hotel in the right street gives you most of the benefit at a fraction of the cost. We will say so in the quote, and our hotel comparison marks the places where we would make that swap.
Who we are not the right fit for
- Travellers who want a new hotel every night or two to cover more ground
- Groups who want to join other travellers on a set departure — every trip here is private
- Anyone who needs a fixed price on the website before sending dates — ours depend on the rooms available
- Trips built around hiking, cycling or long days outdoors; our routes are paced around the hotels
Hotels on this site are named as public facts taken from each hotel's own website, with the date we read it. Naming a hotel does not mean we hold a contract, an allocation or a special rate there. Room rates are not published here; your quote carries the rate available on the day you confirm.
Common questions
Questions travellers ask most
Do you only use five-star hotels?
No. We start from luxury hotels because that is what most of our travellers ask for, but where a 4-star hotel is the more sensible choice for a short stop we say so and price both.
The hotel comparison on this site marks those stops.
Can I bring a hotel you have not listed?
Yes. Send its name with your dates. If the setting and the season work for the route, we build around it. If they do not, we explain why before you spend anything.
Why is there no price on the journeys?
Because the largest part of the price is the room, and room rates at these hotels change with the date, the category and availability. A number on the page would be wrong for most dates. The pricing page explains what moves the total.
How do I contact you?
Send the form on any page. We reply by email to the address you give, with questions first if the trip needs them, then a draft route with named hotels.
