Indochina Luxury

Do you only use five-star hotels?

No. We start from luxury hotels because that is what most of our travellers ask for, but where a 4-star hotel is the more sensible choice for a short stop we say so and price both.

The hotel comparison on this site marks those stops.

Can I bring a hotel you have not listed?

Yes. Send its name with your dates. If the setting and the season work for the route, we build around it. If they do not, we explain why before you spend anything.

Why is there no price on the journeys?

Because the largest part of the price is the room, and room rates at these hotels change with the date, the category and availability. A number on the page would be wrong for most dates. The pricing page explains what moves the total.

How do I contact you?

Send the form on any page. We reply by email to the address you give, with questions first if the trip needs them, then a draft route with named hotels.

Tours

Can I change the hotels on a sample route?

Yes. The hotels shown are examples of the setting and level each route is built for. Swap any of them; the hotel comparison shows alternatives in each place.

Do you run set departures?

No. Every journey is private, for one party, on dates you choose.

What is the shortest trip you plan?

Our shortest sample is nine days across two countries. Shorter trips work inside one country, with one or two stays at most.

Are flights in business class?

Regional and domestic flights are quoted in economy by default. Where a sector offers business class on your dates, we price it on request.

Indochina Grand Stays

Can we do this route in fourteen days?

Yes, by dropping Halong Bay and taking one night from Hoi An. We would not cut Luang Prabang or Siem Reap below three nights; with two nights each they become places you pass through.

Why not fly Hoi An straight to Luang Prabang?

We check at quote time whether a non-stop runs between Da Nang and Luang Prabang on your dates. Going through Siem Reap uses flights we can confirm and puts Angkor on the way.

Can the order be reversed?

Yes. Starting in Luang Prabang and ending in Hanoi works the same way. The Siem Reap–Luang Prabang flight days still decide the order of the middle of the trip.

What if the Halong boat cannot sail?

The authorities suspend sailings in bad weather. When that happens we keep you in Hanoi for the extra night, and the boat portion is refunded on the terms the boat operator applies, which we show you before you confirm.

Vietnam Heritage Hotels

Why five nights at the beach?

Because the first six nights include two cities, a flight and a long drive. Five nights in one place is what turns the trip from travel into rest. If that is too long, four works; three is the floor.

Is there a heritage hotel in Hoi An itself instead?

There are smaller hotels in and near the old town. They put you closer to the lanterns and further from the sea. We can quote one for two nights and the beach for three.

Can we start in Hoi An and end in Hanoi?

Yes. Reversed, the trip ends in a city rather than at the beach, which suits travellers who want to shop or eat out on the last nights.

Do we need a guide in Hue?

For the citadel, yes; it is large and the signage explains little. For the rest of the stay, no.

Cambodia & Laos in Slow Luxury

Is four nights in Siem Reap too many?

Not at this pace. Three mornings at the temples with afternoons free uses three days, and the fourth is rest. With three nights you have two temple mornings and no slack.

Can we add Vietnam before or after?

Yes. Hanoi links non-stop to both Siem Reap and Luang Prabang, so a Hanoi stay fits naturally at either end.

Which Luang Prabang hotel should we choose?

Choose the riverside resort in the valley if you want quiet and do not mind a drive into town. Choose the town hotel if you want to walk out of the gate to the temples and the night market.

Do we need visas for both countries?

That depends on your passport, so check each country's official government portal for your nationality. Laos runs an official e-visa portal; apply only through government sites, never look-alikes.

Vietnam North to South, Beach Finale

Amanoi or Six Senses Ninh Van Bay?

Amanoi is reached by road and sits inside a national park with a private beach. Six Senses Ninh Van Bay is reached by boat, which some travellers love and others find awkward with luggage. Both are quiet; neither is close to a town.

Why not end at the beach and fly home from there?

Long-haul flights rarely leave from Cam Ranh. Ending at the beach means a connection on departure day, often with a long wait. A night in Ho Chi Minh City removes that.

Can we swap Hoi An for Hue?

Yes, but Hue has no beach, so the trip loses its middle rest. We suggest keeping Hoi An and taking Hue as a day trip if it matters.

Is the sea calm in summer?

The south-central coast is mostly dry from early in the year into late summer. Sea conditions vary day to day; the resorts post swimming advice on site.

Pricing

Why is your quote higher than another company's for the same route?

Usually because the two quotes do not describe the same rooms, the same boat or the same car. Compare the named hotel and the named room category at each stay first; most of the difference is normally there.

If the hotels and categories really are identical, tell us and we will look at the rest line by line.

Can you give a rough price before I send dates?

Only a wide one, and we would rather not, because it is the number people remember. With a month and a room level we can give a quote that holds.

Do you charge a planning fee?

No. Planning is included in the trip price. You pay nothing until you decide to confirm.

Are flights and visas in the price?

Domestic and regional flights on the route are. International flights and visas are not.

How to book

How long does it take to get a first draft?

It depends on how many hotels need checking for your dates. Simple requests come back faster than routes across three countries in peak season. We reply first with any questions so the draft is right.

Can I book only the hotels and do the rest myself?

Our trips are built as a whole, with the car, guide and flights fitted to the stays. If you want rooms only, booking directly with the hotel is simpler for you.

How far ahead should we book?

For December to February, and for any stay at a hotel with fewer than thirty rooms, as early as you can. For other months, a few months ahead is usually comfortable.

Can someone call me?

Yes. Tick the call-back box in the form's optional section and add a number. Otherwise we reply by email.

Destinations

Why only four destinations?

Because these are the four places where we have stays worth building a trip around and enough to say about them. Other places appear inside the journeys where they fit.

Can we add Ho Chi Minh City or the Mekong Delta?

Yes, as part of a custom route. Ho Chi Minh City appears as a one-night stop before departure on the North to South route.

Which place would you drop first on a short trip?

It depends on the season. In October and November we drop Hoi An because of the rain. From March to May we shorten Siem Reap because of the heat.

Hanoi

Is Hanoi worth three nights on a luxury trip?

Yes, if one of those nights absorbs the long-haul flight. Three nights gives you one guided day and one free day, which is what the city needs.

Old Quarter or French quarter?

The French quarter for quiet and larger hotels; the Old Quarter for being in the middle of the street life. Most luxury hotels are in or near the French quarter.

Is a day trip to Halong Bay worth it?

Not usually. The drive is long each way. One night on a boat shows the bay far better.

What should we pack for Hanoi in winter?

A warm layer. December to February can be cool and damp, and older buildings are not always heated.

Hoi An

Should we stay in the old town or at the beach?

At the beach for a stay of four nights or more; near the old town if you want to walk in at dawn and after dinner and do not need the sea.

Is the old town worth the crowds?

At 07:30 and after dark, yes. Between 10:00 and 16:00, much less so.

Can we see Hue from Hoi An?

As a long day trip, about three hours each way by road. If Hue matters, give it its own nights.

Is the beach good for swimming all year?

From spring into late summer, usually. In the rainy months the sea is often rough.

Read in full: Hoi An.

Siem Reap

Is sunrise at Angkor Wat worth the early start?

If you sleep well, yes, but you share it with a crowd. A guide can suggest a quieter temple for first light.

Town hotel or one near the park?

A town hotel puts restaurants on your doorstep; one closer to the park puts the temples ten minutes away and is quieter. Both work for three nights.

How much walking is involved?

Four to six kilometres a morning, with steep steps at several temples. Your guide can plan around limits.

Do we need a visa for Cambodia?

That depends on your passport. Check Cambodia's official government rules for your nationality and apply only through government sites, never look-alikes.

Read in full: Siem Reap.

Luang Prabang

Is the alms round still worth seeing?

Yes, from a respectful distance and away from the busiest stretch. Your guide knows where to stand.

Valley resort or town hotel?

The valley for quiet and the hotel itself; the town for walking to temples and dinner without a car.

Can we see Kuang Si waterfall?

Yes, as a half-day by car. Go early; it fills by late morning in the dry season.

Is four nights too many for such a small town?

Not at this pace. The free days are the stay; two nights rarely gives the town time to work.

Where to stay

Why are some room counts missing?

Because the hotel did not publish one on the page we read. We prefer a gap to a guessed number.

Do you get a special rate at these hotels?

The table makes no claim of that kind. Your quote shows the rate available when you confirm, room by room.

Can you suggest a hotel that is not in the table?

Yes. The table covers the stays our sample routes use. If you have another hotel in mind, send its name and we will assess it on the same columns.

How often is the table checked?

Each row shows its source and the date we read it. Before any quote we check the hotel again for your dates.

When to go

Is there one month that suits all four journeys?

February and March come closest. Hanoi is cool, Hoi An is drying out, and Angkor and Luang Prabang are still in the dry season, though haze can start in Laos in March.

Should we avoid the rainy season entirely?

Not in Cambodia and Laos, where rain usually comes in afternoon bursts. Central Vietnam in October and November is the one we plan around.

How far ahead should we book for peak season?

For late December, January and the Lunar New Year, as early as you can, especially for hotels with fewer than thirty rooms or suites.

About us

Are you a hotel booking site?

No. We plan whole journeys — hotels, cars, guides and flights fitted together. For a hotel booking alone, booking directly with the hotel is simpler.

Do you plan trips outside these three countries?

No. Vietnam, Cambodia and Laos only; that is where we know the hotels, the roads and the flights.

Can we speak to someone before sending the form?

The form is the first step; tick the call-back box if you would rather talk once we have your dates.

Read in full: About us.

Contact

Is there a phone number or an office to visit?

Not on this site at present. Send the form; if you prefer to talk, tick the call-back box and add a number.

Do you answer general travel questions?

Yes, if they relate to a trip you are planning. The destination pages and the when-to-go page answer the most common ones.

Can I send a list of hotels I am considering?

Yes. Put them in the notes field. We will say which fit your dates and route, and why.
